Johannesburg has certainly grown into a large city center with miles of sprawling suburbs. Whew- what a long flight! South African Airways flight 208 departed Dulles a little late but arrived on time for refueling in Dakar, Senegal, about halfway through our journey. We arrived in the dark but could see the lights of Dakar as we landed. When we left an hour later it was sunrise and we could see the houses/buildings of the capital city which stretched a couple of miles beyond the airport. Our next flight took us to Johannesburg. I was amazed looking out the window as we crossed the continent how much uninhabited land still exists. Even in South Africa there are huge areas of open veld dotted by small towns and cities.

All my bags are packed and I'm ready to go...
Heading out this evening on a seventeen and a half hour flight to Johannesburg (including a brief refueling stop in Senegal). It has been sixteen years since my last visit to South Africa and I cannot wait to see how it has changed! |
