Our last day in-country with our South African counterparts! Professional development this morning focused on creating a shared site through which our students can communicate – this will be the best part of the program! At our closing lunch we had one last chance to just enjoy each other as one large group.
In the afternoon some of the South African counterparts joined us as we visited the Cradle of Humankind, a World Heritage Site recognized as one of the locations in South Africa from where all human life originated. (Read more about it at http://www.maropeng.co.za/content/page/about or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cradle_of_Humankind.) The area is the oldest continuously active Paleolithic archeological site and has uncovered a large number of and some of the oldest fossils of ancient hominids. I wish my ancient world history students could all visit this site – the museum is wonderfully interactive, interesting, and informative. Very cool!
Our last night in South Africa! After a spectacular dinner (ostrich steak for me) we headed back to the hotel to pack. Leaving bright and early tomorrow for our last tour before returning Stateside.
