Had breakfast this morning with a former student of mine from Chantilly High School, Amanda Erasmus --what a great way to start the day! I knew she lived in South Africa and I contacted her on the off chance that she was in the area and that we might have a couple of hours free at the same time. It turns out she is currently living in Pretoria so she and her husband were able to join me for breakfast. What a lovely time! Nothing makes a teacher happier than seeing her students go on to live happy, productive, and successful lives.
The rest of the day was spent with counterparts, sharing and reflecting on our experiences in the schools over the past week. We are finally getting down to the nitty-gritty of the program, beginning to develop lessons together that will further Global Education in our classrooms. Thoko and I are having to be very creative in finding the crossover between her Tourism class and my Modern World History class. I think we are going to focus on the broad theme of Globalization which will allow is to look at environmental, cultural, social and economic relationships around the world.
