My first day teaching at Seshegong Secondary School! While the GETEP schedule did not allow me to spend the entire day at the school, I was able to observe Thoko teaching, do some warm up activities with students and have some brief discussions about perceptions of the United States. Class periods are only forty minutes – it seemed like the siren (rather than a bell – sounds like an air raid siren!) would go off after we had just begun! One thing that stood out immediately was the large class size – some classes had more than 50 students. I had hoped to do the Trainwreck icebreaker that I use in my own classroom but space simply would not allow it. Instead I did a rock, paper, scissors tournament and the students had great fun.
